Please can you help?

In researching any family history, of course there are always many unanswered questions, but with this Gammell family history there are three that stand out for me and which I cannot solve.

Can you help solve these mysteries?  If so I’d love to hear from you.

Question 1

The first Gammell ancestor we can trace with absolute certainty is William Gammell and the first fact that we know about him for certain is that he married Margaret Scott on 19 August 1727 and that he was a 'shipmaster' in Greenock, Scotland. You can read more about him here, and about his possible antecedents here?

Who were his parents?  When was he born, and did he have any brothers or sisters?

Question 2

The above William Gammell had two sons and a daughter;  William (1732-unknown, but probably 1818 or 1819?); James (1735-1825); and Margaret  (1738-unknown). You can read more about them here

What happened to William?  Did he emigrate to North America (that seems possible since there is no trace of him remaining in Scotland and his brother James was a ship owner trading extensively with North America)

When did Margaret die?

Question 3

What happened to Andrew Francis Morley Gammell (1855-?).  It is possible he emigrated to Argentina but that is not certain? You can read more about him here.

When and where did he die?  Did he have any children?

If you think you know the answers to any of the above questions, I'd love to hear from you.  You can contact me on alistair@gammell.net
